If you did not participate in PQRS in 2013 there is a 1.5% penalty being withheld on each of your claims in 2015.
If you did not participate in PQRS in 2014 there will be another 2% penalty withheld on all of your 2016 claims.
If you do not participate in PQRS in 2015 there will also be a 2% penalty withheld on all your 2017 claims.
Penalties are Cummulative
That means, if you did not submit the PQRS codes in 2013 and 2014 there will be a total penalty of 3.5% on each and every claim you submit in 2016.
And if you do not submit PQRS codes in 2015, and haven’t submitted them for 2013 or 2014, you will be hit with a 5.5% penalty on all your claims in 2017.
Plus – Medicare already deducts 2% per claim for sequestration.
Conclusion
If you did not submit PQRS codes in 2013 and 2014, and you do not submit in 2015, your total penalties in 2017 will be 7.5% on every claim you file.
